CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla (AP) – The Spacial Rock has left a large crater on the Moon during a total lunar eclipse.
The Spanish scientists announced on Tuesday that the meteoroid hit the moon in an area of 61,000 km / h. It was the first lightning observed during the lunar eclipse.
Scientists – who run a lunar impact impact detection system using eight telescopes in Spain – believe that the object was a comet fragment of up to 60 feet (60 feet) and 100 lbs (45 kilos). The impact energy was 1½ tons of TNT.
Astrophysicist Jose Maria Madiedo of the University of Huelva says it was "really exciting" to catch a short flash, after many attempts during an eclipse.
These findings are included in the monthly announcements of the Royal Astronomical Society.
