The age group that focuses on the most HIV-infected people has declined in the province in recent years. They are between 25 and 30 years most of those who were diagnosed while previously it was centered around the age of 35 years.
This was emphasized by the owner Provincial AIDS Program, Dr. Víctor Bittar who have stated that this is particularly associated with some laxity in preventive measures. But he also warned that it was particularly surprising to increase the number of people with higher education who are diagnosed with HIV. This segment was 34.8% in 2017 and 31.8% this year.
However, most new diagnoses are still secondary education, 44.5% of this year.
The human immune deficiency virus is the precursor of AIDS, which has been installed in society since the 1980s and scientific advances have made it possible to identify mechanisms to prevent and treat them that mitigate the impact. There are also strong prevention campaigns such as what is happening December 1, International Day Against AIDS. This is why it is remarkable that the broadcasts continue.
The number of cases diagnosed and registered this year has dropped drastically, but the program clarifies that there are delays in the notifications that explain the phenomenon and estimate the year ends in mid-2019.
So 185 cases of HIV and 46 AIDS were reported in 2018, compared with 296 and 61 cases detected last year. Bittar warned they estimate they will reach 300 by the end of the year, and that the province has some 300 new diagnoses of HIV for some time.
On the other hand, this stagnation continues to attract attention. Although there is information and access to precautionary measures, the last 8 years have introduced a record of new cases that have almost recurred in the previous decade.
Between 2000 and 2009, 1,422 new HIV diagnoses were reported in Mendoza, of which 2 573 people reported from 2010 to 2018.
"We are not absolutely right, we believe that care is taken to take preventative measures, young people know what HIV is and how they take care of themselves, but they know they do not always use condoms, but also an important source of transmission is oral sex, for which most do not use protection because they do not think that the transfer can also be done in this way.
"Sometimes you know things, but with a whirlpool in the bed are not taken into account and many practices occur with the consumption of alcohol or other substances and I do not know who had sex with" added by the program owner.
Index of masculinity
Men are still the most affected and in fact last increased the masculinity index.
This year 75.68% of new cis-male diagnoses (biological men who are perceived as such), 21.1% female cis and 3.2% trans-women.
The masculinity index, which has already demonstrated the large gap between women and biological men with HIV / AIDS, has grown this year. After several years and 2.7 although with alternating small peaks up, in 2018 it reached 3.7. This means that each biological woman is 3.7 with this infection.
