You've ever been to the cinema and found yourself in a small screen cinema and thinking, "Does not that look much bigger than television?"
It is obvious that someone in Hisense has, because the company has released a series of very large 4K ULED televisions aimed at enthusiasts for home entertainment and it is worth it.
The P9 series comes in two sizes – 65 inches and 75 inches. I checked the 65-inch model for a simple reason, because the bigger one would almost certainly not fit into my lounge.
In terms of size, the P9 series is what the real estate agents would call a "statement" – in this case, the statement "I love big TVs and I can not lie".
Televisions are slim but heavy pieces of kits, weighing only 40kg, but also a lot of features.
ULED is a proprietary imaging system from Hisense and includes many different technologies, but the shortened version is shown in black colors almost as black as OLEDs but is much more brilliant than the other system – and most importantly for consumers, it is cheaper.
Hisense says the P9 is equipped with the lightest 4K televisions on the Australian market and I can trust them – the display is really brilliant in the traditional sense until I'm surprised I did not get a tan from grief.
The TV is equipped with a game mode that turns off some of the processes on board (which is done by a console), thus reducing delays.
The sport tour has focused on the company in recent years – it was the official F1 screens of the last year, as well as the FIFA World Cup in Russia in 2018 – so it's no surprise to see the P9 sports mode that reorientates the TV processor's priorities to the horizontal (as this is the case when the event takes place in most non-AFL sports).
There are a number of other options and preferences for different viewing modes and seemed to work well from what I saw in testing. Obviously, the image quality was excellent and very crisp, with plenty of vibration in color, delivering all the performance expected of a higher 4K TV.
While the TV is generally excellent – as you are hoping, given the price – the remote control does not have buttons to light up, which is usually not a problem as the TV is as bright as it is, but there is still an obvious omission. The remote controls responded and the buttons for the Netflix and YouTube buttons on the remote are available, allowing you to quickly start up your TV's operating system.
Getting a TV set for 4K consoles was also a bit more than I expected – I had to use a specific HDMI port, then I got into TV system setup and turned on "Advanced" mode, then go to the picture menu and turn it in game mode – but after setup, it turned out to be very impressive, and the setup did not require further tuning.
I really tried different AAA games, including that Red Dead Redemption II, Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Special Brigade and looked amazing, with bright, vibrant colors and sharp details. The huge screen just added the experience.
While the P9 has a free-to-air digital TV tuner, the screen is so big that some things preceding the 720P seem almost inconsistent, they look block and pixels. To be fair, this is by no means a television error, and if you have over $ 4000 that you spend on top-of-the-range television, you probably will not use it to watch the repetition of something else Absolutely fabulous on ABC in any case.
There were no problems with Netflix, Stan or Foxtel Now, but they were broadcast either in full HD or in 4K without any problems and they looked very nice. Again, the 65-year-old screen improved the experience even though I watched Archer, Sabrina Chilling Adventures or John Wick.
The sound seemed to have a bass focus, but it was definitely clear and worked well in a number of games, shows and movies.
The Hisense P9 series is big, clear and courageous – and offers all the features of premium TV broadcasting at a slightly cheaper price than any of its competitors.
It's definitely not true OLED, but it's very close (and much clearer), and if you're looking for something that's the centerpiece of the lounge and it offers you a great browsing experience or games then you really should check P9.
