Testing the 2019 Honda CRF250R at the Cahuilla Creek MX

2019 Honda CRF250R

Newly introduced in 2018, the CRF250R saw the GEICO Honda and TiLube Honda teams winning the AMA Supercross and Arenacross competitions, and at the same time have achieved the success of amateur national races. With an increased focus on acceleration performance, Model 2019 delivers the potential of racing to obtain updates for the engine, brakes and electronics. Take it together and the CRF250R quickly converts punches into winnings. In fact, internal testing has confirmed that the CRC250R 2019 was steadily 2 seconds faster than its predecessor over the steering wheel on the Honda test track – the true potential for winning the podium.

2019 Updates

  • A new camera profile based on the feedback from the Team HRC MX2 Racing team provides a strong extra-level acceleration
  • New geometry of feeds and exhausts improves the performance of low-speed engine while maintaining top performance CRF250R
  • The new 44 mm throttle body improves the low-speed air suction flow compared to previous versions of 46 mm for better corner balance
  • The completely new piston oil uses five nozzle openings instead of four, which increases piston cooling efficiency and reduces knocking, allowing accurate timing of ignition timing for optimum power delivery
  • The right exhaust pipe has been shortened by 50 mm for superior performance at higher engine speeds
  • The new AC generator reduces weight loss and friction
  • Renthal Fatbar® reduces the weight of the steering system and bends for optimal comfort
  • The top three-way clamp is equipped with two handlebars to move the handlebar rearwards and forwards by 26 mm to ensure rider comfort. When the holder is turned 180 degrees, the handlebars can be moved further 10 mm from the base position, resulting in four completely unique driving positions
  • The new engine protection cap allows greater airflow and improves engine cooling performance
  • Reworked fork shields offer better coverage
  • Black rims provide a strong presence on and off the track
  • The new, lighter front brake caliper now uses pistons of different diameters (30 mm and 27 mm) for strong braking performance
  • The updated front hose has reduced expansion for more precise braking
  • The newly shaped legs are 20% lighter and mop up more easily, giving the rider a great feeling and confidence in all driving conditions

Motor / Drivingrain

  • High-performance single-chamber 249cc engine with double head and high rotation, offering superior performance
  • Diamond Like Coating (DLC) fingertip maximizes valve stroke while maintaining low engine height
  • The Downdraft Input Arrangement creates a strong force and allows a large throttle response by reducing the resistance, thereby increasing the air charging efficiency
  • The double exhaust ports allow the ideal air charging efficiency
  • Start-up standard for easy, fast engine start-up
  • Simply adjustable Standard, Smooth and Aggressive modes allow easy tuning depending on rider preferences or driving conditions
  • Optional HRC starter control ensures a steady torque for excellent start-up performance

Chassis / Suspension

  • Lightweight aluminum frame with conical beams provides great feedback
  • The low center of gravity reduces the front lift for strong acceleration
  • A light and compact titanium tank of 1.66 gallon keeps the balance to a minimum
  • Smooth body arrangement makes it easier to move the rider
  • Graphics in form are durable and resistant to peeling due to washing or abrasion
  • Geomax MX3S tires for superior shock absorption and grip under all sorts of conditions
