Volkswagen wants to build a power plant in America

This report should be delighted by US President Donald Trumpe: Volkswagen wants to build a new factory in North America to produce electric cars for the US market. Discussions and reflections on site selection have already taken place, North American chief Scott Keogh said on the edge of the Los Angeles auto show. The new vehicle should be introduced in 2020 under the Volkswagen brand for a purchase price of $ 30,000 to $ 40,000.

To maintain this timeframe, a new electric car will initially be manufactured outside of the US, later production will be held at a newly chosen location in the US. One option is the existing Volkswagen plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where the Passat and Atlas SUVs are built.

Volkswagen View graph wants to attack the new electric car and the American pioneer Tesla. Plans are part of the massive investment of Europe's largest automaker in electronic vehicles. VW has recently decided to add nearly € 44 billion to electromobility, autonomous management, mobility and digitization services by 2023 – up to € 10 billion more than VW in the last programming period. Chief Executive Officer Herbert Diess wants to turn Volkswagen into a leading supplier of electric cars.

BMW also tests further production in the US

US President Trump has recently brought the car industry back to the scene. Above all, he was concerned about the harsh austerity measures of US General Motors, and again brought higher rates for car imports to the US. "Wirtschaftswoche" announced that Trump could pay special import duties next week.

In this tense climate, BMW Chief Harald Krüger agreed on a conciliatory tone at the Los Angeles Motor Show. The company is testing a second US production facility that could produce engines and transmissions, he said on Wednesday. "We are in a position where you can think twice." This was also a safeguard against monetary turbulence. BMW already has an assembly plant in South Carolina and plans next year to open a race in Mexico.
