Its value is estimated at between EUR 120 000 and EUR 160 000.
ATA small picture of French impressionist Pierre-Auguste Renoir was stolen from a large auction house in the center of Vienna, a local police vice-president on Wednesday said he was looking for three suspects.
The painting, which depicts the seaside landscape, should go under the hammer Wednesday, but disappeared from Monday afternoon, according to the same source. Its value is estimated at between EUR 120 000 and EUR 160 000.
Police published photos taken with a surveillance camera showing that three men would enter the Dorotheum auction house around 5:15 pm. Upon returning to the painting on the second floor, they left the premises alone.
"They were probably professionals," said Patrick Maierhofer, a spokesman for the Vienna police.
This image, named "Bay, Sea, Green Cliffs", measures 40 x 27 centimeters and dates back to 1895.
