An 18-year-old woman was sexually assaulted on Friday night near one of Osborne's busiest intersections, police say in Winnipeg.
The victim reported to the police that he was walking near the Avenue River and Osborne Street at about 10:30 when a man approached her and grabbed her arm.
The man "firmly escorted" the victims to the area between Pulford Street and Bole Street, north of Stradbrook, and sexually assaulted her, police say.
The victim was transferred to the hospital for treatment.
The attacker is described as a former mid-1920s, about 5 "tall, with a medium-length structure and short, dark hair. At the time of the attack he was wearing a dark jacket and dark trousers.
The police are asking potential witnesses to come. In addition, video surveillance is expected to play an important role in investigating Const for sexual crimes. Jay Murray said Saturday's reporters.
Individuals should feel safe. They should not want to go for a walk, which would result in sexual assault … On the basis of what we were told, this woman did nothing wrong.– Const. Jay Murray
Murray encouraged people who are afraid of their safety in the area to go after couples, be assertive and aware of their surroundings and trust your instincts if you think there is something wrong.
He also stressed that the police do not believe that the woman should do something else in this situation.
"Individuals should feel safe, they would not want to go for a walk, which would result in sexual assault," he said.
"I just want to make it clear: on the basis of what we were told, this woman did nothing wrong."
