NEWS 1130 – Burnaby RCMP are looking for "prolific" thieves who are said to be breaking into apartment buildings to steal the mail in the middle of the night.
It is said that about five people may be involved in plans to steal mail from several buildings in the last few weeks. It is not clear if they work together.

Cpl. Daniela Panesarová says that in some cases, she has sent up to 100 boxes out of the mail and cleansed them in a matter of minutes using tools such as so-
"They will come in, whether it's the door, or the followers who are ignorant of them, are the criminals who are trying to do that, and people leave them," he says.

Police warn that thieves are not only looking for money, credit cards and other valuables. They could have personal and confidential information that might be included in the accounts. Criminals can take and share information with information about social media profiles to potentially commit other crimes, such as the identification of theft and fraud.
"We have seen cases where the suspect has ordered credit cards and returned to his residence and kept checking, waiting for the credit card to be received," Panesar says.

The police release suspicious thieves and they hope to know them.
"That's a huge cost to the public, not only that you're sacrificed by stealing the mail, but then going on," he says. "You may be a victim of identity theft, just like other scams that have financial consequences."
It offers you some tips on how to prevent you from becoming a theft, such as picking up postal items, not leaving strangers in the door, and reporting suspicious activity to the police when it happens.
