VANCOUVER – The RCMP says that a transit police officer was shot and was looking for what they considered an armed suspect near Skytrain in Surrey, BC.
In her statement, the RCMP said that they received 911 phone calls and a warning from the Metro Vancouver Transit police that one of their officers was shot dead at Scott Road Skytrain at 4:20 am Wednesday.
It is said that the officer was hospitalized with serious but not injured injuries.
The RCMP established a protection zone, including airspace, and asked members of the public to stay out of the area.
TransLink said in a tweet that the train station was closed due to a police incident and the bus was offered as a replacement.
Sgt. Clint Hampton of the Metro Vancouver transit police says the male officer was wounded and did not believe any of the public would be injured.
