LAS PALMAS DE GRAN CANARIA, 31 January (EUROPA PRESS) –
It was possible to prevent 90% of cases of stroke with prevention and a healthy lifestyle, according to experts from the neurological service of the Gran Canaria Teaching Hospital, the reference center in the province of Las Palmas for the performance of mechanical thrombectomy.
This prevention is through correction and treatment of modifiable risk factors: hypertension, diabetes, hypercholesterolemia, smoking, obesity, sedentary life, alcohol and drug consumption, stress and previous heart disease.
It was reported by the Canary Islands government's health ministry, which adds that professionals have remembered that stroke is the second cause of death in Spain – the first in women – the first cause of adult and second dementia.
In this way, symptoms of stroke usually appear suddenly and unexpectedly, and although their typology depends on the affected brain area, some are a sudden change in a language with difficulty talking or understanding; or sudden loss of strength or feeling in the body.
It also causes a sudden change in vision, such as eye loss in one eye, double vision or inability to evaluate objects somewhere in our field of view; sudden loss of coordination or balance; or headache very intense and different from other usual headaches.
