HOW DOES IT WORK?
Researchers then injected four layers of different substances into the vas deferens of male rats. The first layer consists of a hydrogel, a substance that acts as a physical barrier that prevents the passage of sperm.
They then injected a layer of gold nanoparticles that are heated by infrared radiation. They then injected ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), which decomposes the gel and kills the sperm and closes the pipeline with another layer of gold nanoparticles.
In this way, semen not only prevents the passage of the channels but is eliminated by EDTA. But interestingly, if you want to reverse the contraceptive process, you just have to heat it with infrared radiation and the nanoparticles of gold will do their job, mix with the other layers and re-allow the passage of sperm.
Now that efficacy has been demonstrated in rats, scientists hope to test the method in humans as well as guarantee the safety of the compounds used.
