Significant increase in cancer cases in Spain

According to the report "Cancer numbers in Spain", carried out by the company Spanish Medical Oncology Society (SEOM) of cases of diagnosed tumors is 277,234, which is 12% more than in 2015.

This data was gathered through The Spanish Network of Cancer Registries (REDECAN), GLOBOCAN 2018 and the National Institute of Statistics (INE)It should be noted that the most prominent cancer is lung cancer in women, which for the first time ranks third in incidence.

Aging, alcohol, obesity, sedentary lifestyles, as well as the introduction of early detection programs, were crucial in properly evaluating the occurrence. In the last four years, the number of cancer cases has increased by 12% and by almost 18% for women than for men, which is 8%.

The most prominent disease is the colon and rectum, almost 45,000 new cases every year, followed by prostate, 35,000, breast, 32,500, lung, 29,500 and 24,000 bladder. Uncommon types of cancer include pancreas, stomach, oral cavity, pharynx or Hodgkin's lymphoma.

It is important to note that the development of cancer is always conditioned by age, although it increases after 45 or 50 years, but if we analyze the incidence from birth, men can develop it by 50.8% compared to 27.4 for women.

The assessment by the scientific community is related to the world-wide deaths most affected by lung cancer (18.5%), followed by colorectal (9.2%) and gastric (8.2%), liver (8.2% breasts (6,6%) and esophagus (5,3%), then pancreas (4,5%), prostate (3,8%) and leukemia (3,2%).

It should be noted that Spain, according to INE published data, cancer was the second cause of death for cardiovascular disease, it was the first cause of death in men, and the second for women.

It is important to mention that World Health Organization has shown that approximately one third of cancer deaths are caused by avoidable causes; tobacco, infection and alcohol. Social awareness and quality of life means that some types of cancer do not develop, and although the genetic burden may be high, dietary habits, mild sports, and smoking and drinking delay throughout life necessarily prolong this and cause cancer to develop. However, a review of suspicion that someone is there is always there, and it is better to go to the doctor to find out if he suffers or not.
