Central Bohemia – The sickness has grown, but the flu can not. Thus, it is possible to summarize the findings of Central Bohemian hygienists resulting from the evaluation of the reports of practitioners and pediatricians on the occurrence of acute respiratory infections and the flu among their patients in the 46th calendar week.
For cases that could be influenza due to the clinical picture of the disease, the hygienists recorded a third increase compared to the previous week – an increase of 33.3 percent. This type of sickness in the Central Bohemian region currently represents eight patients per hundred thousand inhabitants. However, the real flu does not work, says Lilian Ruml, head of the antiepidemic department of Central Bohemian Hygiene. This has been proven by laboratory research. "The influenza virus was negative from the biological sampling carried out," Ruml said.
However, such flu-like illnesses are just a drop in the sea of total morbidity; according to the calculation of hygienists, they represent only 0.8 percent of the total number of acute respiratory infections in the region. In the case of the previous week, an increase of 6.9 percent was recorded.
Within the national average, total sickness is 1054 diseases per 100,000 inhabitants. There are, however, significant differences between regions. The highest proportion of patients was recorded in Příbram (where, however, the situation was virtually unchanged compared to the previous week); on the contrary, it is best for Kladensko. "The most affected age group is children under the age of five," Ruml recalled the situation, which is typical for the distribution of respiratory diseases in the population.
