Industrial plants can cause damage to the intestines
Cushmaro's latest study was published in the industrial locations of the Molecules newspaper.
According to his study, which is a collaboration between researchers at Ben Gurion University and Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, most of the known artificial sweeteners that we use interfere with the work of intestinal bacteria.
For this study, Koshmaro and his team exhibited a special type of light emitting E-coli commonly used in artificial plants.
Scientists tested six artificial sweeteners considered Safe Food and Drug Administration (FDA), including aspartame (Equal, NutraSweet), Splendy, Sweet & Low and other products.
They even tested the protein powders of athletes and various flavorings that contained these artificial sweeteners as the main ingredient.
After hundreds of bacteria in artificial sweeteners, Koshmar concludes that these sweeteners have a toxic and exhausting effect on the intestines, making it difficult for microbial growth and reproduction to be beneficial.
Scientists believe that two cups of soda or coffee in local plants a day are sufficient to affect the health of the intestines and even make it difficult for the body to treat normal sugar and other starches.
Scientists, however, are not entirely sure that they only tested bacteria, not humans.
"We do not claim to be toxic to humans, but we say it can be toxic to beneficial intestinal bacteria, and that will affect us," says Koshmaru.
Industrial sweeteners will not reduce your appetite or satisfy your sugar tastes
It was not their first study that caught attention.
Another recent study on the effect of artificial sweeteners in mice has suggested that they have changed the way the rat's bodies deal with fat and energy and also break muscle in mice.
In humans, previous studies suggest that the use of artificial sweeteners is associated with high levels of obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure and stroke.
Other studies have shown that calorie-free sweeteners can help reduce weight, but this study also suggests that low-calorie drinks will not destroy appetite.
There is some limited evidence that artificial sweeteners can crazy the brain to think that we do not feel the same satisfaction we feel when using normal sugar, prompting us to eat and drink.
Kochmaro intends to perform further tests on intestinal bacteria in the hope of focusing on how they work in human intestines containing artificial sweeteners.
"In the last few years we have to appreciate the importance of these bacterial complexes," says Kochmaro.
Consumers are already avoiding these types of sugar substitutes, instead choosing sweeteners extracted from leaves of the Stevia plant.
Stevia's sales rose 12% last year, while Aspartame dropped by 8%, and Sucralose and Sacharin fell by 6%, according to Food Navigator.
Researchers are still cautious about all artificial sweeteners, including Stevie, because the research published so far has shown a distorted picture of its health and potential harm.
Stevia leaf products are still not approved by the American Food and Drug Administration and there are some concerns about their effects on the kidneys and the reproductive system, and blood sugar, cardiac and blood vessel blood sugar levels.
