Measles tops 700 cases in U.S., the most since the 20th century

It's official – America is suffering from measles in numbers not seen since the end of the 20th century.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, from January 1 to April 26, 2019, 704 individual cases of measles have been confirmed in 22 states. This is an increase of 78 cases from the previous week.

This is the greatest number of cases reported in the U.S. since 1994, and since it was declared eliminated in 2000.

The states that have reported cases of CDC are Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Texas, Tennessee, and Washington.

North Dakota has no reported cases of date.

Measles outbreaks (defined as 3 or more cases) are currently underway in 2019 in the following jurisdictions:

These outbreaks are linked to travelers who brought measles back from other countries such as Israel, Ukraine, and the Philippines, where large measles outbreaks are occurring. Make sure you are vaccinated against measles before traveling internationally.
