People with dry eyes may have a slower reading rate: 5 foods for eye health

Do you have chronic dry eyes? If the findings of the latest study are to be believed, people with chronic dry eye disease have a more likely slow rate. The study was published in the journal Optometry and Vision Science.

Chronic dry eye is a common disease in which natural tears can not sufficiently lubricate the eyes, which drastically affects their functioning.

Findings have shown that this condition may slow down the reader's frequency by up to 10%, and it can be difficult to read more than an average of 30 minutes. The clinically significant dry eye could read less words per minute – 32 words per minute less – than those without this condition who read at the same rate of 272 words per minute.

"We assumed that people with a dry eye usually can not keep a good frequency because their tears can not quickly ruin their eyes quickly enough," said Esen Akpek of the Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute in the US.

A sample of the study included 186 adults aged 50 years or older. Participants did not use the prescription even through the eye drop contract 24 hours before testing. One of the major findings was that all participants responded to eye discomfort in the quality of vision and contributed to eye complaints such as wind or smoke.

People who experience frequent dry eye symptoms such as tingling, vision fluctuations, and dryness may try over the opposite eye drops but do the best if subjected to professional testing and diagnostics, Akpek said.
