Bombardier suspends redundancies

Bombardier is scheduled to suspend redundancies in Northern Ireland.

Trade union leaders said the company would also offer 32 employees who lost their jobs.

Bombardier is a major employer in Northern Ireland but is undergoing global restructuring.

Susan Fitzgerald, uniting the regional coordinator, said, "This is great news for these workers and their families.

"This reflects the workforce's determination to challenge the ongoing erosion of jobs and skills across the company's headquarters in Northern Ireland."

Last November, the company announced that nearly 500 jobs should go in Northern Ireland to reduce costs and increase efficiency in order to ensure its long-term competitiveness.
