The image that spread through social media networks has provoked outrage in Palestinian administration and embarrassment at police ranks. The Chief of the Palestinian Police, General Hazem Atallah, decided to suspend the officer and start the incident investigation.
According to the first information received by the police, an incident occurred on Sunday near the Susya village on the west bank of the river. Israeli soldiers watched there when their vehicle was stuck as a flat tire. Soldiers asked for help and al-Rub gave them the tools. When the soldiers did not change the tire, he did it himself.
The image documenting the al-Rub to help the soldiers who received the Palestinians who were in place was released online and became viral within hours. The Palestinians who commented on the photo reflected the PA and its security officials.
PA spokeswoman Louay Zreikat issued a statement Thursday, announcing that al-Rub was suspended and that an investigative committee was set up to deal with the events.
"To our apprehension, some use this photo to attack the Palestinian police and instigate its official despite the fact that they are constantly working to give the Palestinians a sense of security," Zreikat said.
Despite his statement, many Palestinians repeated the call of the social media to shoot al-Rub and exploit the picture to criticize security coordination between Israel and the Palestinians.
