I congratulate President Raimond Vējiens on Lāčplēsis
November 11, 2018.
Information was prepared by the President's office
Today, Latvia reminds and honors its heroes – soldiers who have not cared and sacrificed their lives for the freedom and independence of our country. Thanks to its courage, indifference, and genuine love for the homeland, the Latvian army has struggled against Riga against a much larger and more powerful enemy. We have entered and won our country and nation.
This November 11th is a special day not only for Latvia but also for the whole world because we mentioned it a hundred years after the end of the First World War. During the First World War soldiers first gathered under the red-white flag. Upon entering our country, after the founding of the Latvian heroes, they carried the flag from Valka, Liepaja and Cesis, via Lielupe and the Gauja River. Today, it is laid and still flows in the tower of the Holy Ghost Riga Castle, as of November 11, 1919, over the protected Riga.
Today our soldiers are ready to pay the highest prize – the life of their country. Just like a century ago, along with Latvia's loyalty and future, there are reliable allies today.
We know and appreciate the price of freedom. We continue to strengthen our defensive capabilities every day. We are very aware that we will protect the independence of our country only with strong, modern and combat-capable national armed forces. With the growing number of young people joining the new guard, there is a growing young generation who has the necessary knowledge and skills to act at the crucial time to protect Latvia.
I greet all Latvian military soldiers, guards and young adventurers on Den Lacplesis! Thanks for the day-to-day awakening and observation of our Latvia! It's a hard and responsible job. I thank parents who teach love for their homeland. Thank you to every heart that our soldiers await at home from services, training and missions abroad. You are great support and strength of our army!
Let the heroic inspiration of our soldiers inspire each and every one of us every day to join our country and work continuously for our Latvia!
God blesses Latvia!
