Diabetes mellitus is one of the most common chronic illnesses, the first symptoms that some patients may not even know. However, exact diagnosis of the disease is very important and can help prevent complications.
Celebrating the World Day of Diabetes, experts more remind that the disease helps to recognize this disease and notes, but the best way to make sure is to measure the level of sugar in your blood and consult your doctor.
Elva Ramaškienė, a Eurovision pharmacist, points out that early diagnosis is important for both type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes, as the consequences of delay are both painful in both cases. True, type I diabetes is much more pronounced and more recognizable, and here is Type II – it can calmly tune in for several years.
"The first type of diabetes is diagnosed when human immunity begins to kill pancreatic cells producing insulin, which usually affects young people up to 35-40 years of age, often diagnosed in children and adolescents, which can lead to inheritance, but not only that the reasons are different The second type of diabetes is usually determined by the human way of life, illness or complications, and it is more common in older people, "says E. Ramaškienė.
According to the pharmacist, the symptoms of the first type of diabetes are quite pronounced and seem relatively fast. The first five symptoms include high levels of thirst, excessive urination, increased fatigue, weakness and noticeable weight loss. After some time there is another characteristic sign – the fragrance of acetone begins in the mouth.
But type II diabetes seems less clear. The symptoms of this diabetes mellitus are very similar, but not so active. And unlike type 1 diabetes, weight gain in this case usually increases significantly, obesity, overweight is noted.
"The sooner diabetes is diagnosed, the more serious the complications are, and the more severe it is." A large proportion of people with type 2 diabetes suffer from cardiovascular disease because they are too late for their physician, although it is this type of diabetes, early stage observation completely restore the body ", – remarks E. Ramaškienė.
According to her, complications often affect not only the vascular system, but also vision, nerves and kidneys, and therefore have the best suspicion, check and consult doctors on time.
Check – for everyone
In case of suspicion, it is best to determine the level of blood sugar. This is important for all, especially for those with a family history of illness, as well as for overweight and older people.
"Older people often have problems with their liver, pancreas, cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus, and other causes of low disease activity when sugar starts to accumulate in the body and breaks down so quickly," he says.
E. Ramaškienė points out that diabetes can end up with a very serious complication of influenza. If flu symptoms are unclear and flu-free, it is worthwhile to find out what is causing them.
Every year in November, various healthcare institutions and organizations are traditionally more active when they are urging them to release blood and to find blood sugar levels.
Last year, this campaign took place in four major cities in Lithuania, on the initiative of a "Eurovassive" network of drug addicts and people associating people with diabetes.
The results showed that among nearly 1,000 randomized individuals, more than a dozen high-risk patients were immediately dispatched to family doctors for advice.
Blood sugar can be checked for free this year from November 17-18 in the largest drugstore shopping centers in the Akropolis supermarkets in Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipeda and Šiauliai.
E. Ramaškienė points out that there is no need for special training, but it is advised to eat before checking because certain foods can affect blood glucose levels.
