Limu, November 6 (EFE). – Peruvian economist Pedro Cortez was named by Telefonica del Peru as his new executive president, the position he will take on January 1, 2019, instead of Javier Manzanares, who has been in this position since 2006, as the telecommunication company said today.
Cortez has been Executive Director of Telefonica del Peru since the beginning of this year, and will also take over the company's presidency next year.
Economist has developed a 20-year career in a company during which he was CFO of Telefónica Móviles in Peru and CFO of Telefónica in Venezuela.
In addition, Cortez served as President and CEO of Telefónica in Venezuela in 2012.
Telefónica del Perú said Cortez "will take on a new challenge to lead the digital transformation and simplification process the company is promoting."
In a new position, the executive will "continue its efforts to consolidate the work of the organization in the consolidation process in a profitable and sustainable digital telecommunications system" as well as "support the digital integration of millions of Peruvians not yet connected through the Internet for All project".
Likewise, the Telefónica Group recognized "the tremendous contribution and leadership" of Javier Manzanars over 30 years of experience in the organization, of which 24 were in Peru.
"In over two decades of management (Manzanares), besides Telefónica's growth, it has also achieved a significant advance in the development of the telecommunications sector in the country," the company's press release said.
From his positions as Managing Director of Multimedia, Managing Director of Telefonica Moviles and President of Telefonica del Peru, Manzanares was "a tough promoter of social responsibility and sustainability projects", such as Connecting to Grow, Mobile Classrooms and Cruzada de Valores Somos Grau next to the Navy Peru .
