“The contract will now be sent to the Court of Auditors in order to obtain the necessary prior visa,” recalls IP.

According to this document, “the contract to be implemented consists in the complete reconstruction of the track surface over a length of approximately 46 kilometers, also with the assumption of elevation, widening and extension of the platforms at Celorico da Beira, Pinhel and Vila Franca das Naves and Guarda, to support the improvement of user mobility conditions in access to rail transport “.

“The layout of these stations will also be changed to allow 750 meters of trains to move, optimizing operating conditions not only by increasing the capacity of freight trains from the current 500 meters to 750 meters in length, but also increasing the number of circuits,” he said. the said communiqué.

IP adds that “the contract will also include work to remove the Celorico Gare and Baraçal level crossings”.

“As an alternative to crossing, appropriate inequalities and resettlement will be built to ensure better safety conditions for users,” warns the public company responsible for the national rail network.

The “Contract for the Celorico da Beira – Guarda section” is part of Action 2015-PT-TM-0395-M – Aveiro-Vilar Formoso Railway Connection in the Atlantic Corridor: Beira Alta (Pampilhosa-Vilar Formoso) route, approved under the program.
