Patrice Evra admits that he laughs when he hears that Donny van de Beek is being compared to Manchester United teammate Paul Pogb.
Pogba performed for the first time in the Premier League for United after more than a month at the London Stadium and placed an elegant equalizer in front of the goals of Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford ensured a return to the scene.
Pogba fought for fitness and form this season Van de Beek prefers Old Gunnar Solskjaer of recent times. The pair reunited on Saturday night, but the Dutchman was withdrawn at half-time as United pulled.
French star Pogba then played a key role as red devils eventaully found his form to win.
“What a great goal from Paul,” Evra said. “When people start comparing him to Van de Beek, it makes me laugh – look at that goal.”
Evra also criticized Van de Beek’s performance in London after the midfielder was replaced by Bruno Fernandes.
Marcus Rashford was also sent as a replacement for Edinson Cavani. These changes sparked praise for Solskjaer after United’s pathetic first period.
Evra added: “I think we should recognize Ole, because when we lose, people always attack Ol. What a great change – Bruno and Marcus are running for the defense, that’s what we needed.
“They made a difference and Mata and Paul came to life.” Everyone knew that Cavani didn’t have a good game, nor did Van de Beek. He (Solskjaer) made a quick change, we won.
“I don’t want this team to react, I want them to act.” But to be fair, after that bad first half … and now it’s like four consecutive victories.
“So it’s all positive for United, but of course, when you know about football, you know something’s wrong when you always have to come back.” I’m really happy tonight. “
