Another electric Audi will be running on the tracks of the Audi e-tron SUV and Audi e-tron Sportback for 2019. This time with a flat architecture that delivers exciting dimensions and low center of gravity. The performance of 434 kW (590 hp) is ensured by a powerful sports car. The torque is transmitted to the wheels thanks to the Quattro all-wheel-drive with torque, as you would expect from such a dynamic Audi. The Audi Sport GmbH's powerful subsidiary is responsible for the subsequent transformation of a car into a volume production model.

Inspiration pumped from aerodynamic tunnel: design and body

Flat, wide and long wheelbase – these are the proportions of classic Gran Turismo. And the concept of the Audi e-tron GT reflects these models with a length of 4.96 m (1.96 m)
(6.4 ft) wide and 1.38 m (4.5 ft) in height. The light body of the four-door coupe is made of a multi-layer construction. Here you have a roof made of carbon together with many aluminum parts and load-bearing elements made of high-strength steels. The technology for this car has been developed in close collaboration with Porsche. Design and character are full of unmistakable Audi DNA.

The slightly sloping roof line of the e-tron GT concept, which extends to the rear, reflects the sportback layout, which is the hallmark of the brand. Clearly, however, it goes into the future, pointing to the next stage of the Audi design language. The cabin, which narrows strongly towards the rear, is in comparison with the current Audi models. The arches and wheel arms are heavily carved and together with the unusual flat floor for the electric vehicle, they visually highlight the low center of gravity and dynamic potential of the Audi e-tron GT.

Wide ranges and numerous functional body elements, as well as the ventilation holes of the wheel arches and the solid rear diffuser, emphasize its origin in the aerodynamic tunnel. A low resistance factor that reduces fuel consumption and low stroke visually characterizes the design.

The arc between the curves of the wheels was pulled out, creating a distinct contrast with the cab. The parapet draws the eye to the floor space where the battery is located and therefore the energy center of the Audi e-tron GT concept. The design of five spoke beams is also visibly tailored to their function. Their dynamic design ensures optimal ventilation of the brake discs while reducing the pull. Compared to tires of 285/30 size, the 22-inch wheels are also bright when seen from the side.

Audi Singleframe is located at the center of the front. Compared to two SUVs e-tron, its architecture is much more horizontal. The top half is covered with body paint. Its surface structure resembles a typical grille pattern on the Audi RS models – a visual signal that characterizes the concept of the Audi e-tron GT as the future product of Audi Sport GmbH.

Together with the target airflow in the body, large front air intakes effectively cool the assemblies, battery and brakes. The bonnet with the airflow on the surface reflects the two latest brand cars, Aicon and PB18 e-tron. Designed to keep the air flowing around the body to reduce unwanted swirling.

The front part in the shape of the arrow also emphasizes matrix LED headlamps with a laser beam, which underlines the dynamic presence of the Audi e-tron GT concept even when stationary. As seen in current Visions vehicles, light is also animated and welcomes drivers with a short functional sequence – a wave of light that spreads horizontally: a new visual signature that will be set in the future to go into volume production.

The light tape passes through the entire width of the back. This strip is scattered on the outer edges, in actual light units, into individual wedge-shaped LED segments. This architecture connects the e-tron GT with the mass-produced SUV e-tron, which is instantly recognizable even in the dark as an Audi electric car.

The new external kinetic dust in the exterior – warm, dark titanium-like colors – appears practically without the "technoid" standoffish. Depending on the appearance and movement of the light, it provides a distinctive contrast between the body surfaces. The matte, warm colors of the aluminum elements on the ornamental window and rim edges accentuate these effects even more.

Sustainable modern feeling: interior

Four doors, four seats with a wheelbase of 2.90 m (9.5 ft) – the interior concept of the Audi e-tron GT provides a great deal of everyday usability combined with an excellent sense of quality. The functional center of the interior is located to the left on the right, visibly aimed at the driver's seat. The central console, large touch screen at the top and a range of doors and driver's cockpit frame perfectly integrate the driver ergonomically with the controls and the Audi e-tron GT information system. The center console and the free standing instrument cluster seem to be floating. The bright colors at the top of the cockpit and the gradual darker gradient of the floor give the impression of a clear width. Sports seats inspired by racing engines in both seat rows provide optimal lateral support even when cornering.

Both the central display screen and the touch screen above the center console are equipped with a black panel finish. They emphasize a large, quiet interior design with predominantly horizontal basic architecture. Various layouts are available to monitor displays based on driver preferences, including virtual device numbers, easy-to-read navigation maps with range information, or various infotainment menu options. They are controlled by a tactile feedback touch screen.

With the concept car, the designers deliberately left for the consistent use of sustainable materials – a clear statement about the current car design. Products based on animal origin are not used at all: the concept of the Audi e-tron GT comes with a vegan interior. Sophisticated, synthetic leather is used on seats and other decorative surfaces. Fabrics made from recycled fibers are used on seat, armrests and center console. Microfiber material adorns the headgear and window pillow trim. Even a deep carpet is made of sustainable yarn Econyl, a recycled fiber made from used fishing nets.

With two luggage, the concept of the Audi e-tron GT offers plenty of options for Gran Turismo. Here he fully exploits the concept of the benefits of an electric car with compact drive units. The rear with large rear tailgate offers up to 450 liters of luggage space. Under the hood there is an additional capacity of 100 liters.

Performance and range: drive

System performance 434 kilowatts (590 hp) – an impressive value of the potential of an electric drive. Separate electric motors are mounted on the front and rear axles. In both cases, they are permanently excited synchronous motors. On all four powered pieces, they made a torque on the road – of course, the new concept of the Audi e-tron GT is also an original quattro. The electric quattro is accurate because there is no mechanical connection between the front and rear axles. The electronic control system coordinates the drive between the axles and between the left and right wheels. This means optimal traction and only the required amount of slip.

In the future, the vehicle should accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h (about 0-62.1 mph) in about 3.5 seconds to reach 200 km / h (124.3 mph) in just over 12 seconds. The maximum speed is set at 240 km / h (149.1 mph) to maximize the range. One option that can not be compared to all competitions is the possibility of fully utilizing the drive's accelerator potential several times in a row. Whilst elsewhere, the drive is overwhelmed by temperature considerations, the Audi e-tron GT concept can provide the driver with the full potential of both the engine and the battery thanks to its sophisticated cooling strategy.

The scope of the concept vehicle will be over 400 kilometers (248.5 miles), determined according to the new WLTP standard. Required drive power comes from a lithium-ion battery with an energy content of over 90 kWh that captures the entire floor area between the front and rear axles with a flat design. The decisive advantage of this design is the extremely low center of gravity of the car – comparable to the Audi R8 center of gravity – which in turn definitely benefits from dynamic handling. The driver on all wheels delivers it to the perfect synthesis of sports cars, such as agility and precision, complemented by great directional stability.

The regeneration system increases the range of up to 30 percent on Audi electric vehicles – this is also essential for sports cars such as the Audi e-tron GT concept. Recovery includes both electric motors and an electro-hydraulically integrated brake control system. The various recovery modes combine: manual recovery after recuperation by sliding falls, automatic braking recovery with predictive efficiency support and brake recovery with a smooth transition between electric and hydraulic deceleration. Up to 0.3 g, the Audi e-tron GT concept restores energy exclusively through electric motors without the use of a conventional brake that covers more than 90% of all deceleration. As a result, the energy is fed back to the battery virtually in all normal braking maneuvers. The wheel brakes take part only when the driver decelerates more than 0.3 g using the brake pedal. The concept of the Audi e-tron GT includes high-performance ceramic discs that also work with many extreme decelerations without compromising the braking effect.

Reduces charging time: 800-volt charging system

The battery in the Audi e-tron GT concept can be recharged in a number of ways: using a cable that is attached behind the flap in the left front wing or contactless induction with Audi Wireless Charging. Here, a charging pad with an integrated coil on the floor where the vehicle is parked and connected to the power supply is fixed. The alternating magnetic field induces alternating voltage in the secondary coil mounted in the vehicle floor via an air gap. A power of 11 kW can be the Audi e-tron GT concept fully charged overnight.

Wire charging is much faster because the four-door coupe is equipped with a 800-volt system. This significantly reduces charging times compared to conventional systems currently in use. It takes about 20 minutes for the battery to charge up to 80% of its capacity and redevelop more than 320 kilometers (WLTP). However, the e-tron GT concept can also be recharged at lower voltage charging points, which gives the driver access to the entire charging network.

Audi: Electric offensive continues

The four-wheel marker launched its electric offensive with the world premiere of the Audi e-tron electric SUV in September 2018. By 2025, Audi will offer twelve electric cars in the most important markets around the world and will reach about one-third in sales with electrified models. SUVs within this portfolio include the Audi e-tron and the Audi e-tron Sportback, to be launched in 2019. In addition, there will be a number of models with a classic body layout such as avant and sportback. The scope covers all relevant market segments ranging from compact to full-fledged classes.

The Audi e-tron GT introduces the car, a highly dynamic low floor coupe, debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show 2018. The technology in this car was developed in collaboration with Porsche; the design and character of the e-tron GT concept are full of unmistakable Audi DNA. The project will be developed into volume models by the end of 2020. Initial deliveries will be available to customers from the beginning of 2021.

Another common project of the Audi and Porsche development divisions is Premium Platform Electric (PPE). It will be the basis for a range of Audi all-electric drive models that will cover B-D segments with a large volume.
