Science, innovation and research are of great interest to people with diabetes, as their development depends on the potential for progress, which will contribute to a significant improvement in their quality of life. With the knowledge of approximately 6,000,000 people with this pathology and their families, the Spanish Diabetes Federation (FEDE) launched an innovative project on dissemination of information and scientific information called "Noticia ConCiencia" in 2018, bringing the latest findings on human pathology with diabetes. As explained by André Lorenzo, President of FEDE, "the concept of conscience" refers in Latin to "conscientia" on shared knowledge, and that is exactly what we want to support with this project. We believe that it is important that people with diabetes, simple and in a close way, have passed on science to respond to their needs and improve the quality of life. "
Twelve months after the foundation of the FEDE, it developed an evaluation of the 12 most significant reports that were most interesting with regard to the development of the artificial pancreas to control diabetes that could become a reality next year. In that sense, responsible for the endocrinological service of the hospital in Barcelona, announced the latest developments in the "automated glucose control system using mathematical algorithms capable of interpreting glucose values and its fluctuations, in addition to making automated infusion of insulin without the patient having to intervene."
Secondly, information on the first drug that reported "the potential to treat type 1 diabetes" was highlighted as a result of the work of a group of scientists led by members of the Andalusian Center for Molecular Biology and Regeneration Medicine (Cabimer). Through their research, they have progressed in developing treatment with the ability to replace the pancreatic beta cell population responsible for insulin production; and reduces the autoimmune response that is responsible for its destruction in people with type 1 diabetes. As Bernat Soria, founder of Cabimer, explained, "Healing diabetes must be done both: producing cells to replace those that do not work and stop the cause."
The third place in this particular ranking was the ConCiencia report detailing the dangerous combination of diabetes and sedentary lifestyle. From Di @ betes, it was clear that sedentary lifestyle is more common in people with diabetes than in people without this disease, reflecting the negative role it can play in the development of pathology in type 2 diabetes as in diabetes control in general. Health professionals therefore recommend regular practice of physical exercise, both aerobic and strength, in addition to a healthy diet and good adherence to prescribed pharmacological treatments.
These are just three out of a total of 12 reports prepared by the FEDE, based on the concerns arising from the information published in ConCiencia News, which can be found exclusively on the FEDE website.
