It's cold in Minnesota and the Zimbabwe-American family is preparing for the wedding of her oldest daughter. When an unexpected guest arrives and the bride surprises the family by insisting on the traditional African ceremony, before the wedding, the stress explodes into a full family dispute. Funny, fast and filled with love, Familiar is a brilliant portrait of a carefully knit family that seeks to preserve its past in building a new future.
